I'm in the market for a new lock. There seem to be two types, wire and shackle. I would be carrying it in my backpack so I'm leaning towards the wire type because it's probably easier to carry. Is there much difference between the two security wise? I have to park at a big shopping mall sometimes and both my old locks have seized.

Don't forget the brake disc locks.

I forgot it once. Didn't bother buying a new one...

I hope you don't mean you forgot to remove it before trying to ride.

I hope you don't mean you forgot to remove it before trying to ride. That's why you run a brightly-colored reminder cord from the disc lock to your handlebars. (Or at least I do.)

This sounds like the way to go.

A disc lock and reminder cord work well.

Sounds like a plan.
