Thread: Possible Tepco related scam/sham

    Default Possible Tepco related scam/sham

Wife told me that Tepco called and wants to come visit/inspect soon, to assess our 3 phase power needs.
Said they had re arranged their billing to better suit customers.

Said I to wife, "no tell them to bugger off, we are busy and they are an annoyance."

Wife calls Tepco and tells them not possible. Tepco staff tell her they did not change their
billing structure and they do not do after install inspections ( they inspect only at time of connection ).
    Said be careful.

So when these scammers or whatever show up, will have a surprise in store for them :)
Will also call NTT and get the phone number used for reference ( if they are feeling helpful on the day ).

Never personally came across scammers, but I heard all kinds of stories over the years.
I'd give a quick call to the nearest Koban too just as a precaution. If they show up and a local cop is there, he can check them up, i.e. shokumu shitsumon (職務質問)

It's got my interest, that is for sure. Will see if they show up.

Sounds like the "Do you want to sell some furniture? Let us pop in for a quick look at it..." scam.

See, that was your tip-off right there that they weren't real Tepco employees.

What's that one? They use it as an excuse to case the joint?

In a country where people fall for the "ore ore" scam it's not a tough job, I'm guessing...

A lot of companies do this, call with an offer from, for example, YahooBB with a discounted promotion , although it's not really YahooBB they offer a legit promotion,
Just shady way to make the sale.

I think the lesson here is to ignore sales calls and if you are interested in a promotion that may have come in over the phone, to double-check with the firm yourself, not with the salesperson who may be scamming you.

We finally swapped our clamshell phones for iPhones this week, by changing provider... BTW AU offers a further discount if you have your house phone with EO.net.

So we called Softbank from the AU store to cancel the contract and Wow, whaddya know? We've actually earned enough points on our accounts to get a free iPhone 5s 64Gb each! Such amaze! Naturally, we got no discounts on the monthly fee...

And then how many months for the 7? It's done, it's good enough. I've grown out of needing the latest and greatest of everything.

... it beats the ass off my clamshell phone ;)

There is huge competition now. One year ago I moved from SoftBank to AU and got a free iphone 5 for doing so. This year AU upgraded me to 5s by buying back my 5 then charging me for 5s.

    What's in it for them?

Tied in for another two years.
