Lightbulb The Gaijin Riders Great Garmin Route Repository (GRGGRR)

Everybody loves a good route. If you have a route in Garmin .gdb format that you're willing to share, post up a link to it here. Give a name, year designed (since routes can go out of date as roads change), link, screenshot, days, length, start and endpoints, and any other notes that would be helpful.

    Around Fuji

One I did a lot last year.
Good for taking nice pictures of the Fuji.
View of the Fuji from Motosu-lake as on the 1000yen bill.

It's slow and very twisty. Parts of it are unmaintained untraveled old roads and will eat up time. Take it easy and it's ok if you don't finish it

If you do finish it though, let us know how it was.

I am just looking at each road in Google Street View now having converted the file to .gpx format.
I see what you mean. Couple of those narrow old roads are not looking a good fit with my FJR1300.
Would be fine my old Versys I have overseas.
In hindsight probably the sort of bike I should have here in Japan.
Well that's another discussion. Will try this next week if the forecast remains same minus a couple of bits I think :)

Did it at 70% once. Except one rindo, was OK with a sport bike as long as you keep it calm ;)

And, did a part of it two weeks ago and some walkabout (trying JK style :) ) and in December with JK. Was just perfect, warm for a winter.

Route 81 is currently closed at N35 11.826' E140 08.387' but, even if you need to rollback, great, great great...
The Green Line N34 57.631' E139 54.807' is something you don't have the right to miss!

This road-book is just great, you won't regret trying it ;)

Guy, do you reckon this area/route is doable end of April? Do you happen to recall some of the heights those touges sit at?

I think it should be fine. A lot of the best riding there is along valleys at low elevations. Higher up, the Ryujin Skyline is closed from Dec 1 to March 31, so by end of April it will have been open for a month already. On Google Maps terrain view, it looks like it tops out at just under 1200m in altitude, but I'm not sure about that.

JamesK did some Wakayama touring in early January one year and was able to cover most of his own route before having to turn around due to bad conditions: http://www.gaijinriders.com/showthre...ghter-Jan-2013

So the end of April should be doable. Maybe look out for black ice in the shadows and avoid high-altitude rindos in particular.

Going to sound so stupid now. (coz I am) how do you use these files. I have a Garmin 550 I picked up second hand. Never used it to "plan" a trip.

The route around fuji looks great.

Here you can have some guidance how to do that http://www.gaijinriders.com/wiki/Gar...g_Instructions
Without any software and SD card, you just have to copy past the GPX file in the folder Garmin/GPX, after plugin in your unit on your computer, and then, follow the step to import data in your Garmin unit
