    Essentially what you've got there is a rod end in bending, you don't see it much with bikes but with, kit cars and race cars there's more temptation to do it.

    The spherical bearings involved are never going to fail, similarly if the thread on the shank were just loaded in tension - compression I'm sure it'd be fine too but looking at that design essentially its bound to fail at some point.

    yup that rod is not centered on the bearing. One link either side of the shock is way better
