Default ** JUL 25 ** Fuji Offroad Ride

Plan to ride offroad at Mt.Fuji on July 18 & 19. Will camp at Motosuko, arriving July 17 night.

    http://www.motosuko-camp.com/5_access.htm

Night time temps will probably be cool (camp site is ~1,000m altitude) so bring appropriate clothes. Saturday night BBQ on an open fire. Sure to be lots of fun.

Short of an "Extinction Level Event" I am making this ride and will be camping Friday evening. As stated in the "June 21" ride post, anyone who plans to ride off road on this weekend and can make camp that Friday night (the 17th) will have beers and burgers on me that evening. Post up if you can be part of that group ; )

For Saturday night I will be taking orders for steaks (or other forms of carnivorous joys) but that is a pay as you go (@_@)v

Too bad this ride isn't scheduled for a regular weekend. Work will be really busy Friday and given the 3 day weekend it's highly likely I'll be doing a family camping trip. Might haul the 3 fiddy up to Sobarako and combine family camping with some rindo exploring.

The Fuji riding season is fairly limited due to heavy snow in the winter. There's a good variety of terrain there including dirt trails, lava flows, woodland and rock gardens. It a great location for riders of all abilities to have fun offroad and enjoy camping out next to the beautiful lake Motosu...

You're absolutely right about it being a wonderful place to ride offroad.

I wonder if it's possible to go higher than the 5th station?

You'd need to be able to get up to the 5th station first. You gave up well below there last year... ;-)

I didn't give up, the bike did. Things would have been very different had I had the APT Smart Carb.

You know what they say about a craftsman and his tools... ;-)

Anyway, on the 350 EXC-F you have now, you should have have no problems at all getting up to the 5th station.

Markw, have you ever attempted riding higher than the 5th station? Are there any trails up from there?

No. The tree line finishes at the 5th station. You'd probably feature on National news if you tried...

With no trees to get in the way they must be easy.

There's a chance that an approaching typhoon (#11) will impact riding at Fuji on Saturday (July 18). If the weather is OK on Sunday, we could do a one day ride instead. Although Monday is a National holiday too, traffic back to Tokyo will likely be extremely heavy so would prefer to avoid this. Alternately, we could reschedule the ride/camp for another weekend. Keeping my eye on the forecast...

Yep, weather looking like crap through Saturday. I have until Wednesday afternoon to cancel my rental truck without penalty. Will hold off until then before I cancel.

I suggest that we cancel and reschedule for a weekend that works for more people (and hopefully better weather too). I've already taken my summer vacation so am available to ride most weekends...

Concur with rescheduling. Hope we can find a place with cool temperatures.
