Thread: Back roads in the Izu peninsula

Default Back roads in the Izu peninsula

Went for a long, random ride today. Really nice weather, found some amazing roads and great scenery. Made it to Shimoda and back. I'm sure others here have seen these places before, but it was new to me. As someone said in another thread, stay away from the eastern side, and stick to the west.

Some of those narrow forested mountain roads are pretty sketchy though, with leaves, sticks, sand, rocks, wet patches and even a few oncoming trucks. Had one brown undies moment where the front tyre almost washed out sideways when I went over something I didn't see in a bend.

I'm no photographer, and these were all taken on a smartphone, but hopefully you get the idea anyway.

Bit of advice, Never create a forum account and screen name after drinking heavily and imagining stupid shit you would like to do before you die.

Looks like that feature was turned off. I could probably figure out the roads if I looked at the map again. The 15 and 59 were the inland roads I took in the west.

    Beautiful pictures!

Those mountains reminded me of our Europe trip in 2015. You see, I am a mountain person, some people love water, some fire, I prefer mountains!

The sea is actually quite close and you still feel fresh breeze from the beach, with the mountains around it's just a perfect combination! Really loved the green picturesque neighborhood.
