Default March 21st Ride: Destination - Shirakawa Village, Gifu-ken.

There'll be a group of riders leaving Seto-shi, Aichi-ken at around 9:30am on March 21st to ride to Shirakawa Village in Gifu Prefecture, one of Japan's most famous UNESCO World Heritage sites.

If anyone wants to come along please post below or visit the thread on my blog here:

We plan to be back in Seto-shi some time in the late afternoon, early evening. Clean underwear must be worn at all times, which rules Fastbike out for sure.

hahaha just wait untill you get a 1000CC sports bike.. clean underwear on a ride is a thing of the past..

was in Shirakawa last year ,its a nice place but some of the back roads are very small and might be closed this time of year...

The state of your knickers has nothing to do with the size of your engine mate, but the amount of Tesco Baked Beans you eat. I ain't ever riding behind joo!

I think there will be a lot of snow still in Shirakawa. But the highway running there from Takayama is mostly tunnels so the it should be fine. If you guys want to have a great weekend, stay in Takayama at the Alpha 1 hotel and go out on the town that night. Takayama's one of Japan's best preserved old towns and is a lot of fun.

If you guys do that I might be up for jetting over there that weekend as well!

I'd actually been thinking about a plan similar to this. Something like heading up to Gero Onsen on Saturday, then making our way up to Takayama for Sunday, then heading back Monday morning.

I would join yours Dualta but I kinda want to use all 3 days. Jim if you're seriously thinking about it let me know. We could do a night on the town Sunday. My wife should be joining me.

Actually I was up in Takayama/Shirakawa go last week and there was no snow on the roads but still a bit lying around. A Japanese friend has 4 others keen for a ride that day. Not sure what they are riding or whether they keen for an overnighter. Will hit them up tho

Now there are plenty of single rooms for 5500 yen, and doubles for 9800 available at Alpha 1 in Takayama.

The more I think about it, the more tempted I am to stay Sunday night and hopefully hook up with the Nagoya crew and others if possible. Could be a lot of fun hanging out in Takayama together on Sunday night.

How far/long of a ride is this? I may be up for a day trip. I can always find my way back if others elect to spend the night.

It's about a 4 hour ride straight to Takayama, and from there maybe another hour to Shirawakago via the highway. Well worth spending the night in Takayama if you can do so, lots to see.

That would be cool, JV might be interested as well. Only 5500 to stay in Takayama at the luxurious Alpha 1

It's certain that those of us from the Nags area heading up are only out for the day, but if there was a chance of meeting you lot up there that'd be cool. FB, if you're coming out you better bring beans. It'd sure be nice bumping in to you lot.

Didn't realize it was that long of a haul. I'll likely bow out of this one. Still planning on Shimoda for the following weekend though. Need to start thinking about times and places to meet up for that one as well.

Timing is almost right but won't be able to make it along as it's a little far for the day. Kicking about in Tokyo on the 21st before flying back to London if anyone fancies having a drink/ride there.

Have fun you lot and hopefully see you in the future.

PS: Enjoy the beans. Get some tabasco on the top and you're laughing.

Yeah, sounds like Dualta and company are only gonna be out on Sunday for the day. My wife and I are planning on being out for the whole weekend. I can do Takayama Saturday OR Sunday night. Either way, we'll hit Gero on the way there or back. :)

We could shoot out on the Chuo to Matsumoto, then take 152 over the hill to Takayama. On the way back we could ride twisty 361 to the Chuo if the road is ok.

    Or vice versa!

Sorry, I didn't realize they're going Sunday rather than Saturday. Staying over Sunday night would be fine with me if we can get a few folks to join ... JV, FB, SB, etc...

Dualta, you and your mates should consider staying overnight if possible. Takayama rocks, the following day's a holiday and it's not often we get a chance to meet up!
